Govt agrees to abolish mandatory death penalty

"정부는 사형제도를 폐지하고 판사들이 양형에 대한 재량권을 갖기로 합의했다"고 밝혔습니다.

PETALING JAYA: The government has agreed to abolish the mandatory death penalty and allow judges to have discretion on sentencing, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) said the decision was made after the Report on the Study of Substitute Sentences on Mandatory Death Penalty was presented by him at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (June 8).

“The government has also accepted in principle and taken note of the recommendations of the Special Committee on Substitute Sentences on the Mandatory Death Penalty explained in the report.
